A notorious gangster was recovering last night after he survived a murder bid from a hitman – just months after getting out of prison.
The Irish Mirror has established the criminal was lucky to be alive after the shooting in the Tallaght area of south Dublin – in which he was targeted with a submachine gun.
A souce said last night: “They meant to kill him.” The criminal, who is from Clondalkin, was blasted as he sat talking to a woman in a car in Killinarden at 6.20pm.

He was hit at least once, but his life was not in danger last night. The victim is regarded as a serious criminal and has been involved in a long running feud with a man from the South Dublin area.
That South Dublin man was himself warned by gardai that his life was at risk because of the feud with last night’s victim – and investigators believe that attack is linked to the ongoing war.
The victim was shot in the Donomore Crescent area of Killinarden, gardai said. A spokesman said: “Shortly after 6:20pm, gardai were alerted to reports of shots fired in the Donomore Crescent area of Tallaght.
“A man in his 30s was treated at the scene for an apparent gunshot wound and taken by Ambulance to Tallaght University Hospital.
“His injures are not thought to be life threatening.” Officers said the area of the shooting was sealed off for a forensics probe last night.
There have been no arrests and officers urged witnesses to come forward. The spokesman said: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. They are particularly keen for anyone with camera footage (including dash cam) to make this available to them.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station 01 6666000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
The victim, who is well known to gardai, was released from prison in July after serving a long sentence for shooting a rival. He spent more than five years in prison – and was attacked twice behind bars.
Both attacks saw him slashed in prison by a criminal linked to the Kinahan cartel. Although he is not involved in the Kinahan Hutch feud, he was rowing with criminals linked to the Kinahan mob.
