Been missing your fix of Top Boy?
Well, the perfect antidote is on the way: Sky Atlantic has released the first full trailer for the second series of its hit show, Gangs of London, and it looks more violent and bloody than ever.
We’ll be reuniting with old faces such as ex-undercover police officer Elliot (played by á¹¢á»páº¹Ì Dìrísù), Alex Dumani (Paapa Essiedu), Shannon Dumani (Pippa Bennett-Warner) and Marian Wallace (Michelle Fairley).
The show, which follows the lives of the several criminal gangs vying for control of London, ended last time around with an explosive confrontation between Elliot and Sean Wallace (Joe Cole), which ended in Sean’s death.
The trailer for season two promises more of the same, with Elliot acting as the voiceover.
“Do you know this world you’re in?” he asks, alongside shots of various cast members and explosions.
"I’ve seen things you haven’t. Do you know how it feels to be powerless? How it feels to be a pawn in someone else’s game? The things it makes you do..."
The trailer then cuts to snippets from the upcoming season, showing the gangs getting ready for war - and plenty of explosions.
“What does it feel like, to be a king?” Elliot asks.
We also get a glimpse of new antagonist Koba, alongside a promise from the government, presumably to Elliot.
“You would have the full protection of the state. A new life. You’d be a ghost,” they promise, alongside shots of Michelle Fairley’s character Marion Wallace getting ready for battle- and Elliot fighting his way out of various situations.
In the synopsis for the show, Sky has revealed that the action will pick up one year after Sean’s death.
“The map and soul of London have been redrawn,” it promises.
"The surviving Wallaces are scattered, the Dumanis broken and estranged, and ex-undercover cop Elliot is now being forced to work for the investors.
“To restore order, the investors have aligned behind heroin baron Asif Afridi and together they have installed a new ruling force in London in the form of brutal gang leader - Koba. His vision for the criminal landscape is a dictatorship, a world in which old school gangster codes don’t exist and in which he holds a complete monopoly over London’s drug trade.
“But this monopoly can’t last forever. The gangs are fighting back - who will win the battle for London’s soul?
Series 2 of Gangs of London will see our old favourites and new players fight back against the new order, forcing sworn enemies to work together and family members to betray each other. Full of twists, turns and exhilarating, cinematic action sequences, the series will introduce us to new characters and unexpected leaders will emerge.”
Though it’s been more than two years since the first season, which aired in April 2020, excitement for the next instalment of the critically acclaimed show is high.
“Bring it on!” one excited fan wrote on social media about the teaser, while another agreed: “Gangs of London season 2 needs to drop ASAP after that bomb of a trailer”.
As well as the returning favourites, new names have also been confirmed as additions to this season’s cast, including Waleed Zuaiter as Koba, Jasmine Armanda as Saba, Fady El-Sayed as Faz and Salem Kali as Basem.
Though there’s no official release date for the show, the trailer indicates that it’s on the horizon: keep your eyes peeled…
