Three men have been convicted of drugs offences after police uncovered a plot to flood the streets of Inverness with cocaine and cannabis.
Serafin Gaik, also known as Tomas, 30, was found guilty following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday April 24. His accomplices Pawel Chmielewski, 34, and Logan MacLeod, 34, pled guilty after being snared in an intelligence-led police sting.
Police say that about £425,000 worth of drugs and £19,530 in cash was seized by officers as part of the operation. They believe the drugs were being transported to the north of Scotland in order to be sold in the Highland capital.
The men will be sentenced on May 22. Officers involved in the investigation have welcomed the trio's conviction.
Detective Inspector Robin Sim, of Police Scotland's Specialist Crime Division, said: “Today’s conviction sends a strong message that drug activity in Scotland will not be tolerated. These men were involved in a crime group who brought large amounts of cannabis and cocaine to the north of Scotland which was ultimately destined for the streets of Inverness.
"Tackling serious and organised crime and those involved in the supply and distribution of controlled drugs continues to be a priority for Police Scotland. We will seek every opportunity to disrupt and prosecute those that are involved.
"Whilst we gather intelligence on such individuals through day-to-day policing, we also rely on the information provided by members of our communities who are affected by drug dealers' activities in their neighbourhoods. If you have information about drug dealing or concerns, I would encourage you to contact us on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.”
