While King Charles III has been meeting and greeting thousands of people on his first trip to Wales as King, one Welsh actor has spoken about his close link with the new monarch. Game of Thrones star Owen Teale has shared stories of his friendship with Charles III.
Talking to the BBC during it's coverage of the historic Cardiff trip, Owen told presenter Nick Servini about the many times he had met King Charles and he was full of praise for him.
Owen explained how he was still adjusting to calling his friend King Charles instead of Prince Charles, and thanked the royal and Camilla, Queen Consort in Welsh. He said: "Diolch o galon to the Majesties for the kindnesses they've shown me and the time that I have spent with them."
King Charles and Owen first met at the Royal Shakespeare Company and began their friendship from there. Owen said: "Over the years we have spent some wonderful times discussing poetry and performances."
Owen also spoke about how King Charles once read out the Dylan Thomas poem Fern Hill for the actor in the sitting room of Clarence House. The star, who has also appeared in A Discovery of Witches and Dream Horse, explained how King Charles even joked and asked if he should read it in a Welsh accent.
Owen said: "Then I noticed he was twinkling, it was that wonderful humour that you have heard people talk about. And it was putting me at my ease."
On Friday, September 16 King Charles and the Queen Consort visited Llandaff Cathedral, the Senedd in Cardiff Bay, and Cardiff Castle. He was previously longest-serving Prince of Wales and his eldest son Prince William will now take on the title.
