Game of Thrones fans rejoice as House of the Dragon trailer drops

Game of Thrones fans get ready because there's a new show gracing screens this summer that is sure to have them tuning in.

A trailer has been released for House of the Dragon, a new show launching this summer on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW.

The show is based on George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood, with the events taking place 200 years before the familiar storylines of Game of Thrones.

Focusing on the Targaryen family, the show will give a closer insight into who the family were before we came to know Daenerys.

Superfans of the show don't have to miss out on the excitement as each instalment of the show will be available at the same times as the US premiere each week and be on demand thereafter.

Sky customers can have peace of mind as it will be available in all markets including the UK & Ireland, Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz) takes on the role as King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith (Dr Who, The Crown) plays his younger brother Prince Daemon Targaryen and Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers, Wanderlust) plays the king's firstborn child Princess Rhaenyra.

It's suggested that the pure-blooded dragonrider was born with everything, but she was not born a man.

Quite similarly Princess Rhaenys Velaryon (Eve Best) was passed over as heir to the throne from the Great Council due to her not being a man.

Steve Toussaint as The Sea Snake & Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon (Home Box Office, Inc.)

Her husband, Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) sits as the lord of his House who have a bloodline as old as the Targaryens themselves.

Dubbed "The Sea Snake" for his famed nautical adventures, he built his family to have riches even greater than the Lannisters.

Rhys Ifans (The King's Man, Spider-Man No Way Home, Notting Hill) takes on the part of Otto Hightower, the king's hand. He serves his king both loyally and faithfully, with him viewing Prince Daemon as the largest threat to his position.

Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower & Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower (HBO)

Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) is Alicent Hightower, Otto's daughter and a close member of the king's innermost circle. With a courtly grace and keen political acumen she manages to be one of the most comely women in the Seven Kingdoms.

Fabien Frankel plays Ser Criston Cole, a common-born man with incredible talents with a sword.

Prince Daemon isn't left completely alone, with him finding an unlikely ally in Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) who was 'sold more times than she can recall'.

The show launches this August 22 on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW. It's based on the book Fire and Blood which is available now.
