Game Freak promises Beast of Reincarnation improvements following mixed reviews, starting with "story pacing improvements" within a week: "We take your feedback to heart"

Emma and Koo walk a lonely road in Beast of Reincarnation.

Just one day after the game's launch, there's a patch on the way for Beast of Reincarnation to address criticisms of the action-RPG. Developer Game Freak plans to release the changes in the coming days.

The studio announced the update on Twitter. "Thank you for playing Beast of Reincarnation!" the post starts. "We take your feedback to heart and are currently planning a series of continuous updates."

The list of changes is mostly things you'll commonly find in a post-launch patch, like camera changes, fixing text size, and myriad bug fixes. But one thing that stands out is "Story pacing improvements," something that'll be altered incrementally, according to the tweet.

It's unclear exactly what this refers to, but it seems players are unhappy with the main narrative, and Game Freak agrees there's room to improve. Getting the story right in a glossy action-RPG like this can be crucial, because it's what many players are there to experience, and as this is all fresh territory for the studio, I suspect the devs have come up against the learning curve of pleasing those fans.

That's not to imply Game Freak's just a Pokemon team - far from it - but Beast of Reincarnation is the devs branching out in a significant way. Something that jumps out to me is that combat isn't mentioned. First impressions from reviews made this a clear dividing line between those who enjoyed the experience and those who found it quite middling. Our own GamesRadar+ Beast of Reincarnation review calls the combat "firm but fair," whereas others called it completely uninspired.

Another update could be in the pipeline to address those criticisms. But either way, this first set of fixes is intended to arrive next week.

Game Freak admits Beast of Reincarnation "doesn’t really fit our vibe" after decades of stylized Pokemon but knew "photorealism would be the best fit" for the action RPG
