Michigan State used smothering defense to knock off Southern Indiana on Thursday evening, 74-51, for its first victory of the year.
The Spartans held the Screaming Eagles to only 14 first-half points to build a 23-point advantage at the break, which they would never surrender in the blowout win. Michigan State was able to bounce back from Monday night’s shocking overtime loss against James Madison.

Michigan State is now 1-1 overall on the year and will head to Chicago next week for a big-time matchup against No. 2 Duke. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday night from the United Center and will be televised on ESPN.
