'Gale force winds' to hit South West this week as Bristol in for mix bag

After the weekend's torrential downpours in Bristol, you'd be forgiven for hoping things will improve - but alas, no.

The Met Office has given an up to date forecast for Bristol for the next week and it's a real mix bag, with things potentially turning particularly nasty next weekend too. Monday (June 6) and Tuesday (June 7) will be mostly dry across the city but it'll remain overcast.

There is a chance of some light rain both afternoons but temperatures will reach 20 degrees. Wednesday afternoon (June 8) is the first chance Bristol will see some sunshine but there will be light showers in the morning.

Thursday (June 9) will be cloudy with some sunny intervals in the afternoon, temperatures will remain at 20 degrees. Friday (June 10) sees light rain but then sunny intervals.

The Met Office's long range forecast for June 10 also warns of some strong gales likely to hit the South West area.

They report: "Friday is likely to bring heavy and thundery showers, and strong or gale force winds, to the north and west, leaving elsewhere drier and brighter with chances of sunny spells.

"Over the weekend in the east and southeast, winds should ease, and the generally drier weather is expected to continue although some showers are still possible at times. For the west and northwest however, the unsettled weather may remain with spells of rain and stronger winds.

"This northwest-southeast split is likely to continue into the following week, with the best chance of any drier and brighter spells in southeast England. Temperatures most likely to be near or just above normal, perhaps slightly warmer for a time in the southeast."

South West forecast for Monday:

A dry start for most with bright spells. Scattered showers will develop inland mid-morning, and some showery rain may affect the south coast of Cornwall later in the day. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Rather cloudy on Tuesday with some heavy afternoon showers. Outbreaks of rain at first on Wednesday quickly clears to sunshine and showers. Likely drier with some sunshine on Thursday.
