Gabriel reveals why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left Arsenal amid Mikel Arteta claim

Arsenal defender Gabriel has revealed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's exile from the team was due to an issue with the 'coaching staff'.

The 24-year-old has been speaking in a wide ranging interview with Ohmygoal about his career so far.

Gabriel joined the Gunners from Lille in a £27m deal in the summer of 2020 and has impressed this season alongside summer signing Ben White.

After initially struggling with the language in his first season at the club, the Brazil international has begun to master English and admits he is enjoying life under manager Mikel Arteta right now.

In an interview summarised by a u/Rayerth on Reddit, the Arsenal defender also touched on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's exit from the club.

Aubameyang spent the last month of his time at Arsenal training away from the first team after he was dropped from the team for 'disciplinary' reasons.

He joined Barcelona on a free transfer after the Gunners mutually terminated his contract in January.

"Aubameyang is in my heart, we all wanted him at Arsenal. It's something that happened between him and the coaching staff, the other players weren't in it," said Gabriel.

"I said goodbye to him before he left, I hope he enjoys Barcelona, he is a very nice person with a big heart and I love him very much."

Aubameyang revealed that he took a pay cut to join his new team, a dream move that he had been keen on making.

“My father did it all with my lawyer and they can say it best,” the forward said.

“But the week before we already knew that he could end up signing for Barca. The week before there were already contacts and I knew it.

“I really wanted to go to Barca. I gave up my salary because it is an opportunity that you have once in your life.”
