Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli missed Brazil’s victory over Peru on Tuesday night due to a calf injury.
Martinelli felt discomfort in his calf on Sunday and was sent for a scan by the Brazilian FA, who confirmed he was suffering with a small muscle edema.
The 23-year-old missed training on Monday and then played no part last night as Brazil beat Peru 4-0 in Brasilia.
Arsenal have been in contact with the Brazilian FA after learning of Martinelli’s injury and he is flying back to the UK on Wednesday morning with team-mate Gabriel after finishing international duty.
The Gunners will be hoping the winger can be fit for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth, but he will be assessed in the coming days.
Arsenal have been sweating on the fitness of a number of players during this international break, including fellow winger Bukayo Saka.
The England star limped off during their defeat to Greece last Thursday and was forced to withdraw from the squad ahead of Sunday’s win over Finland.
England interim boss Lee Carlsey hinted any injury sustained by Saka was not serious and there is optimism he will be fit to face Bournemouth.
Kai Havertz missed Germany duty with a knee issue and Thomas Partey did not travel with Ghana due to illness, however both are expected to be available this weekend.
Mikel Arteta is due to hold a press conference on Friday ahead of the game with Bournemouth and further updates are likely then on regarding the fitness of Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
