Gabriel Jesus provides major injury update on knee injury ahead of Everton vs Arsenal

Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus suffered a serious knee injury during Brazil's 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar.

Jesus enjoyed an excellent start to life in north London after joining from Manchester City in a £45million deal in the summer, netting five goals and providing a further five assists from his first 14 Premier League outings with the Gunners. However, the 25-year-old suffered medial ligament damage against Cameroon in the group stages of the World Cup, with some reports claiming that he could face up to four months on the sidelines.

The former City frontman then underwent successful surgery and was then seen on January 22 telling former UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov that he hoped to be back on the pitch in "four to five weeks". Now, Jesus has taken to social media to deliver a fourth update to his fans ahead of Arsenal's clash against Everton this weekend.

"After eight weeks", his Instagram story caption read, accompanied by a picture of him finally back on the grass. Arsenal will hope to have him back in full training as soon as possible as they continue to hunt for their first league title since 2004, currently sitting five points clear at the top of the table.

Despite considerable criticism from large sections of the Gunners fanbase, fellow striker Eddie Nketiah has stepped up in Jesus' absence. The Hale End academy graduate has netted six goals in his seven matches, including a stoppage-time winner during last month's crucial 3-2 win over Manchester United.

Even if Jesus does return from injury soon, he will likely find it difficult to displace Nketiah from Arteta's starting line-up considering the 23-year-old's excellent form in front of goal.
