They were designed to be uncomfortable, it was reported, so that athletes were less tempted to engage in any extra-curricular activities while staying in close proximity to their fit fellow competitors.
Tom Daley posted a video online during the Games to show the anti-sex beds were in fact quite robust and could likely withhold any kind of vigorous movement. “As you can see they are pretty sturdy,” Daley said in a video on his TikTok, while jumping on the beds.
