GAA club in shock after sudden death of young player at ground

A GAA club in Armagh is in mourning after the sudden death of a young man at its grounds.

Police attended the premises at Gerard McGleenan Park in Keady on Monday morning with activities at the venue suspended until further notice.

The man has been named locally as 21-year-old Tiarnan Fullerton and his untimely passing has shocked the tight-knit village.

In a statement, Lámh Dhearg hurling club and Michael Dywer’s football club said the pavilion would be open tonight (Monday) between 7pm and 9pm so that the local community could support each other at this difficult time.

The statement read: “The GAA family in Keady welcome anyone from the community, both members and non-members, young and old, who need support, company, or just a cup of tea and a chat.”

In a statement, the PSNI said: “Police attended a sudden death at the Keady Road area of Keady this morning, Monday 13th March 13.

“Enquiries are continuing and at this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Nearby GAA club Madden also paid tribute online. A Facebook post read: "Madden Raparees GAC are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Tiarnan Fullerton.

"We extend our deepest condolences to Tiarnan's Mum, Dad and brothers, extended family and the whole Keady Community. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
