Fyfe, Mundy with point to prove in AFL

Fremantle are hoping midfielders Nat Fyfe (l) and David Mundy (r) perform against Port Adelaide. (AAP)

All eyes will be on Nat Fyfe and David Mundy as the star Fremantle duo attempt to prove the doubters wrong in Sunday's AFL clash with Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium.

Fyfe was held to just 11 disposals and two clearances in last week's 31-point loss to Carlton.

Mundy also struggled with his return of 13 disposals and zero clearances well down on his season average.

With Fyfe and Mundy non factors in the game, Carlton went on to win the clearance battle 44-30 and the inside 50m count 64-40.

Fyfe was playing just his second AFL match since recovering from a serious shoulder and back injury.

Mundy, who turns 37 this month, is attempting to defy father time in a bid to notch 400 games later next year.

Fremantle's veteran midfield duo are desperate to bounce back, but they face a stiff challenge against the in-form Power.

Since starting the season with a 0-5 record, Port (7-7) have rattled off seven wins from their past nine games to catapult themselves back into the finals mix.

"If we don't get our contest right against Port, they've got a lot of speed and they can get you on the outside," Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said.

"They bring great ferocity in the contest inside and out. And their pressure is really good.

"It's a good little focus for us to get that area of the game right. Clearly after last week it's an area of the game we need to reset.

"We need to get busy in the midfield.

"We were minus 20 in midfield stoppages if you include centre bounce.

"Once you lose that sort of field position from a mid stoppage it puts a lot of pressure on the rest of your game."

Port defender Jase Burgoyne, the son of 2004 premiership player Peter Burgoyne, will make his AFL debut.

Riley Bonner was ruled out after undergoing surgery to fix a fractured eye socket and cheekbone, while Martin Frederick and Steven Motlop were dropped.

Star forward Robbie Gray returns after his two-week stint on the sidelines with knee soreness, while defender Darcy Byrne-Jones (COVID-19 protocols) is also back.

Forward Orazio Fantasia was originally named in the 25-man squad, but was ruled out with soft tissue soreness.

Fremantle lost Liam Henry to a hamstring injury but have been bolstered by the return of Michael Walters.

Defender Nathan Wilson has earned his first call-up this year in what will mark his 150-game milestone.
