Future-proof sports by centralising clubs' pokies contributions: Greens

An independent fund should manage cash earmarked for community contributions collected from clubs' poker machines in the ACT to future-proof support for local sports clubs, the ACT Greens say.

Rebecca Vassarotti, the party's spokeswoman on gambling, wants an independent fund to handle community contributions and said the government should investigate an investment scheme to cut sports clubs' reliance on grants derived from poker machine revenue.

The ACT Greens' Rebecca Vassarotti has called for an overhaul of the clubs' community contribution scheme ahead of Gaming Reform Minister Marisa Paterson's major gambling package announcement this week. Pictures by Keegan Carroll and file.
