Futsal favourites PYF Saltires arrive in Austria today ahead of their latest Champions League quest.
The Perth side is again flying the flag for Scotland at the showpiece event’s qualifiers which run through until Saturday.
Saltires will face hosts Fortuna Wiener Neustadt on Wednesday, JB Futsal Gentofte of Denmark on Thursday before finishing with Amigo Northwest from Bulgaria.
Captain Kyle Ballingall said: “Our group includes two debutants but we are continually researching our opponents.
“However, we want to focus on ourselves. We have put together a plan of how we want to play.
“We know if we can execute it well then we have a good chance of competing in all three matches, considering the quality we have going forward.”
Two recent friendly fixtures set the team up nicely ahead of making the trip.
A game against Blue Magic in Dublin provided a strong test to ensure fitness and playing levels are at optimum level.
While the Perth side lost out 5-2 after a late flurry of goals, Ballingall was pleased with the condition of the squad.
He said: “It was great preparation for us.
“We had a training session in the morning followed by a match in the afternoon.
“They are second seeds in the Champions League so it’s the standard of opposition we will be coming up against.
“The game was tight and it was 2-2 with four minutes to go.
“Unfortunately we ran out of legs at the end but the most pleasing aspect was we competed despite not playing at that level for a long time.
“We are happy with the way we played, there are always areas to work on and we are pleased with how we executed our game plan.
“Most importantly, we created lots of chances going forward while being hard to score against.”
The build-up continued at the weekend when Saltires welcomed Sheffield to the Fair City and won convincingly.
