Shoppers have reacted with anger after Tesco announced plans to slash its Clubcard reward voucher value. The supermarket giant is reducing the value of vouchers when they are exchanged for goods with various reward partners.
From June 14 Clubcard vouchers will only be worth twice their value and not up to three times their value as is currently the case meaning they won’t go as far if you’re looking to book that short break or that meal for two. Currently customers can triple their value when used to access more than 100 ‘reward partners’ including Pizza Express, Butlins Hotels, National Express, Oakwood, Cineworld, and many more.
Shoppers are not happy about the changes with some saying it is an "insult to customers" and others said there was "no incentive now to shop there". One shopper said: "With the cost of living and prices gone up I think it’s silly they're stopping the Clubcard points. Some people are really struggling now. How are they going to manage?"
Another urged people to shop local, saying: "Use your local market before they're all gone. Less plastic, less waste." One social media user said: "So...we all have to spend more at Tesco to do our food shops but get less reward for it. Thanks for the support @Tesco."
Tesco has said: “We are making a change to how customers use their Tesco Clubcard vouchers with our Tesco Clubcard Reward Partners. We’re doing this to make sure we can continue to provide a wide range of exciting rewards whilst keeping our product prices low.
“Millions of people tap their Tesco Clubcard every time they shop, benefiting from access to over 8,000 weekly deals on Clubcard Prices, which we’ve now rolled out across our stores – so from food to clothing, Tesco Mobile to Tesco Bank, you can now find even more great deals. And with potential savings of up to £351 a year more people than ever before are making the most of the value that Tesco Clubcard offers.
“From June 14 when you exchange your Clubcard vouchers for a reward partner code they’ll be worth up to two times as much, not up to three time the value as they are now. Tesco Clubcard continues to have the biggest and most generous Reward Partner scheme with access to over 100 reward partners at two times your Clubcard voucher value.”
To give customers extra time to decide when to use their Clubcard vouchers the supermarket chain is extending the validity period on Tesco Clubcard reward partner codes ordered between March 17 and June 13 so that they’re valid for 12 months rather than the usual six months.
