Fury as Chase star told correct answer is wrong – because of how she pronounced word

The Chase viewers were left reeling after a contestant was told she had got a question wrong because of how she pronounced the word.

Bradley Walsh, who fronts the popular ITV quiz show, returned for another episode of the programme on ITV1 on Tuesday August 2.

Host Bradley, 62, welcomed contestants Jan, Phil, Ellie and Roddy to face The Governess, whom Bradley has nicknamed Frosty Knickers, in a bid to beat the Chaser and take home a cash prize.

However, fans were left unhappy during the cash builder round when student Ellie was tasked with answering questions to build up the cash prize before facing Anne Hegerty to bring back to her team.

Student Ellie was the third contestant who faced the cash builder round on the quiz show as she was asked a question about whisky.

Bradley was seen asking Ellie: "What Socttish whisky brand has the slogan: 'Famous for a reason?'"

Ellie then offered the answer as "Famous Groose", but Bradley corrected her pronunciation as he said: "Famous Grouse".

As the time ran out, Ellie banked a total of £3,000 before having to face the Chaser Anne, 64.

Before she faced Anne, Bradley explained: "Can't give you Famous Groose – unless you were doing it in a Scottish accent."

The audience laughed as Ellie, who sported a tartan dress for her TV appearance, said: "The dress, it brought it over me!"

Bradley replied: "You were unlucky with that but you're a good player Ellie." But, fans were angry on Twitter.

One wrote: "what a petty thing to do! Not give it to her because she said famous Groose instead of Grouse!"

Another added: "Famous Groose, aye nae bother hen #thechase".

While a third demanded: "Give her the point for famous groose! Loads of Scots up here say it #TheChase".

"Give her 'Famous Groose' you tight b*****ds! #TheChase," a fourth said.

And a fourth questioned: "Famous Grouse not allowed cos she pronounced it differently?"

While another viewer insisted: "She got that right! Should get a bonus point for the accent".

Another saw the funny side of things as they joked: "Ooh, aye, I'd love a bit of some "Famous Groose" meself, but I'll stick to me Irn-Bru, ta very much. #TheChase".

It comes after Bradley joked he had "had enough" of hosting the quiz programme in an episode last week.

The comedic moment came during Monday night's episode when, after a wrong answer was given by a contestant, Walsh said he had "had enough" of the hit game show.

Mark Labbett, known as The Beast, immediately urged the host to retract his statement and identified who his replacement would be. Labbett told Walsh: "Don't say that. Phillip Schofield will be here in a heartbeat."

Walsh quipped back: "He's never been in Heartbeat. That was Nick Berry."

Bradley has been hosting The Chase since it first launched in 2009.
