Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui believes that his side should have been awarded a penalty in the second half of the Carabao Cup clash against Nottingham Forest.
The Reds made it through to the semi-final of the competition via a penalty shootout win, after the score ended 1-1 after 90 minutes. Dean Henderson was the hero, saving Joe Hodge’s decisive penalty kick to send Forest through.
But, Wolves believe that they should have been given a penalty in the match, with Matheus Nunes going down under a challenge. Referee Graham Scott waved away appeals and booked both Nunes and Lopetegui for their protests.

After the game, the Wolves boss spoke of his disappointment at the decision by the officials, hinting that VAR would have overturned the decision if it was available in the game.
“We are disappointed because we wanted to go into the semi-finals. We fought a lot and had more chances than Nottingham,” Lopetegui said, via BirminghamLive .
“We have suffered a very clear action. Matheus Nunes went to control the ball and he didn’t allow him to do it. It is very clear, we have seen the image.
“Maybe I will have to review my knowledge of the rules. Maybe they are different. It was very clear.
“We have to accept it. The referee is the one who has the power to say yes or no. They don’t have VAR today, it was a pity for us.”
There were also angry scenes at full-time following Henderson’s penalty save with players confronting each other and stewards getting involved to separate them. Wolves players were unhappy with Morgan Gibbs-White’s celebrations in front of the away end.
But Lopetegui wasn’t certain on what started the melee. “I don’t know,” he said. “Maybe a gesture or a word (started it).”
Forest return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Leicester City at the City Ground. VAR will be back in action for that game.
