Furious Dundee chiefs have vowed to contact the SPFL and Scottish FA over their match against Aberdeen being postponed.
Referee David Munro called off the match around an hour before kick-off with fans informed via social media posts from both clubs minutes later.
And angry Dundee representatives have insisted the match could have been played with players taking part in a training session on the pitch after the call-off was confirmed.
General manager Greg Fenton told PLZ Soccer: "The referee arrived at 13.40 for the game. He did his pitch inspection - as you can see he had concerns with the away goalmouth.
"At that point, with no consultations with the managers or police, he made his decision to call the game off.
"Obviously we are not happy with that and we will be taking it up with the league and the SFA."
Asked if he would have expected discussions to have taken place between the referee and managers of both clubs as well as the police, Fenton added: "The managers and the police. All of us together, safety team, police, managers all together make a decision."
Pushed on the financial cost of the call-off, Fenton explained: "I couldn't put a figure on it just now but any event that gets cancelled there are obviously costs associated, six figures to that."
Dundee boss Tony Docherty, on PLZ, added: "We'll be doing a 90-minute session on the pitch which kind of tells you everything.
"I was in the middle of my team meeting and I got a chap at the door to tell me that the game was off.
"Somebody has just told me the Cove game has been rescheduled to 3.30 to allow the game to go ahead, why was that not considered?
"I'm really stunned, shocked, really disappointed. I am frustrated for my players, there is a huge feeling of frustration for them. Just look behind you, they are training on our pitch.
"You organise your life, your family's lives around football, we now need to go and change all that. The feeling is this game should be on."
