A fuming dad marched his young daughter to the front door of Gary Glitter's bail address demanding an explanation from staff of why they are protecting a child sex offender. The furious parent, who told reporters his name was David Jones, said staff at the hostel asked him to leave and told him they called the police after he sought the explanation.
The 46-year-old construction worker turned up to protest after reports of vigilantes trying to climb the gates at the hostel on Saturday. Mr Jones told the Mirror: "There's schools all around. I'm just appalled at what's going on. That's what my tax pounds are going on? To protect someone like this?
"I would just like someone to explain what's going on. Explain to my six-year-old daughter who you're protecting in there. It's her that needs protecting - not him. It's our children that need protecting.
"This is totally different to America where you can go on a website and find out who lives in your neighbourhood. Here it doesn't happen and it's completely wrong. Why does he have more rights than a six-year-old girl? He's 78 years old - he should have just died in prison."
Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, is believed to have been holed to have been holed up at the site in the south of England since being released from HMP Verne in Dorset on Friday. He was freed after serving half of his 16-year sentence for the sexual abuse of three schoolgirls.
A source told the Mirror that the aging rocker is being treated like "royalty" at the halfway house. They claimed he tucked into fish and chips as his first post-release dinner on Friday night.
The predator's fall from grace began in 1999 when he was jailed for four months after admitting to the possession of around 4,000 child pornography images. He went abroad following his release, and in 2002 was kicked out of Cambodia amid allegations of sex crimes.
In March 2006, he was convicted of abusing two young girls in Vietnam and spent two and a half years in jail. Then in 2012, detectives from Operation Yewtree – the investigation launched in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal – arrested him at home, and he was jailed in 2015.
Gadd had been at the height of his fame and powers when he attacked a 12 and 13-year-old girl in his backstage dressing room. But his youngest victim was less than 10 years old when he crept into her bed and tried to rape her in 1975.
Despite being at liberty, it has been reported that the ex-glam star is under strict licence conditions and will be tagged. The Mirror has approached the police and the Ministry of Justice for comment.
