Jonjo Shelvey joked that Newcastle United were a team of "whinge bags" after Nottingham Forest were floored in stoppage time.
The former Newcastle midfielder was reflecting on the 2-1 defeat at the City Ground in a hard-fought battle that needed an Alexander Isak penalty to settle matters in the East Midlands. It looked like Forest had yielded a point until an injury time handball handed Isak the chance to win it.
After the game Shelvey said: "I didn't think they [Newcastle] would whinge as much as they did on the pitch. But it is a game of football. I represent this football club now.

"I will give it my all. But yeah, a lot of whingebags in their team. I’ll tell them that, only in a jokey way. I hope they get into Europe and have just positive words about the club."
Looking back at the night overall, Shelvey, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "We restricted them. We knew they would have a lot of the ball, its disappointing. When you’re in the position that we’re in every point is vital, and I thought we deserved something from the game, but it wasn’t to be.
"You know they're always going to start fast, once we started playing longer we got the goal, and its probably a bit naïve to concede right on the break.
"We knew that Newcastle are top of the league on running stats, so we had to match that and I think we did, just got undone late on. We can’t dwell on it, we’ll get back on the training pitch."
