Federal authorities have released details of Shamsud-Din Jabbar's final hours, retracing the steps that led to the tragic New Year's Day terror attack in New Orleans.

The FBI shared the timeline revealed by the ongoing investigation into 42-year-old Jabbar and what led to the act of terror that left 15 people dead and dozens injured.

December 30, 2024:

Jabbar rented the Ford F-150 truck in Houston, Texas, which would eventually drive into a crowd celebrating New Year's Eve on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

December 31, 2024:

Jabbar began driving from Houston to New Orleans. Police believe he may have recorded videos during the trip.

Early January 1, 2025:

Between 1:29 a.m. and 3:02 a.m., Jabbar uploaded five videos to Facebook, proclaiming support for ISIS and outlining his intentions. Initially planning to target his family and friends, Jabbar altered his plan, hoping the headlines would focus on the "war between believers and disbelievers."

At an undisclosed time, Jabbar planted two improvised explosive devices in the French Quarter. Both devices have been recovered and rendered safe by authorities.

Around 3:15 a.m., Jabbar rammed his rented truck through a barricaded area of Bourbon Street, deliberately targeting revelers, using his vehicle as a weapon. He exchanged gunfire with police and was fatally shot by officers at the scene. An ISIS flag was attached to the back of the truck.

Ongoing Investigation:

The Bourbon Street scene has been released by investigators as evidence recovery efforts continue elsewhere. Authorities have seized three smartphones linked to Jabbar, as well as two laptops from a residence. Digital forensic analysis is ongoing.

Specialized teams are working to assist survivors and families of the victims as the FBI and local law enforcement continue coordinated efforts to collect evidence.

Officials have confirmed that Jabbar acted alone and the public is not currently at risk.
