Full Newcastle United injury list as Eddie Howe issues update on trio ahead of Chelsea clash

Newcastle United will be aiming to extend their nine-match unbeaten run when they play host to Chelsea at St James' Park on Saturday.

The Magpies sit third in the Premier League and are six points ahead of Chelsea, who are looking to avoid a run of three straight league defeats for the first time since 2015.

Eddie Howe's side have won six of their last seven games and will hope to increase their grip hold on the race for UEFA Champions League qualification with a victory over the Blues.

Howe has issued injury updates on three players as he prepares for the final game before the Premier League pauses for six weeks for the 2022 World Cup. Here is a full round-up of Newcastle’s injury list, what Howe has said on their condition.

Callum Wilson - illness

Wilson was brought off at half-time during Newcastle's 4-1 victory over Southampton last weekend. He was absent from the squad as Newcastle beat Crystal Palace on penalties to progress to the Carabao Cup fourth round. Howe has revealed that he will make a late decision on whether or not Wilson will be fit to play against Chelsea.

Howe said (Nov 11): "We'll wait and see. He's been working separately from the group this week. He had an illness so he's been away from the group. He's been working well but I need to make a decision whether he is fit enough to play."

Ryan Fraser - calf

Fraser has been an unused substitute in each of the last three games in the Premier League. He was left out of the squad entirely for the midweek cup tie against Crystal Palace. Howe has confirmed that Fraser was suffering with a calf problem and is a possible doubt for the Chelsea clash.

Howe said (Nov 11): "Possibly [could miss the Chelsea game]. He's got a calf problem."

Alexander Isak - thigh

Isak sustained a thigh injury during training while on international duty with Sweden in September. Newcastle's record signing has been out for the last seven league games but Howe is hopeful that the 23-year-old will be able to return after the World Cup.

Howe said (Nov 11): "I'm not sure whether he'll train with us initially. I think he had a scan the other day on his injury and it looks good, it looks like its healed. But now the process starts of building him up and making sure that he's robust enough to come through training. I'm not sure he'll join in with us initially but we hope by the time the game starts he's available for selection."

Paul Dummett - calf

Dummett has been out for an extended period with a calf problem and has only featured once for the Magpies this term in their 2-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers in the Carabao Cup in August.

Howe said (Nov 5): "Yeah and he's getting closer. He's running and he's seen a couple of specialists to check and find solutions to a couple of the muscle problems he's been getting. He's in a good place."

Matt Ritchie - calf

Ritchie has played just one minute of action in the Premier League this term and has been out of the squad with a calf injury for the last seven games.

Howe said (Oct 14): "Matt picked up a calf problem. We don't know whether he'll be back before the World Cup, but he's doing well."

Emil Krafth - knee

Krafth was stretchered off with a knee injury in Newcastle's Carabao Cup victory over Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in August. He confirmed on Instagram that he will be out for several months after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Howe said (Aug 30): It's an ACL injury. He's not been operated on yet, so it's difficult to give a firm date, but it's going to be six to nine months. A long time out, which is a huge blow to us."
