The full results for this year's Gedling Borough Council elections have been confirmed, with the ruling Labour Party retaining control of the authority. After the counting began on Friday morning (May 5), the Labour Party won 28 seats, a comfortable majority to maintain their hold on the authority.
The Conservatives won an extra two seats, standing at nine, and the Liberal Democrats won an extra seat, taking their number of councillors to four. But this time around there are no independent councillors.
The Gedling election had been hard fought by the main parties, with both the Tories and Labour putting up a candidate for each of the 41 seats available. Deputy leader Michael Payne, who was re-elected as ward councillor for Redhill, said: "It is a fantastic set of results all over Gedling borough, but we will not be taking it for granted - we will continue to work very hard to help people who are struggling.
