Full Bristol Rovers fixtures for 2022/23 League One season with a rare home start for the Gas

Bristol Rovers celebrate their return to League One by kicking off the new season at home for the first time since 2015.

Rovers have been selected to play their opening fixture of the last six campaigns on the road but have a date at the Mem on July 30 against fellow promoted side and West Country neighbours Forest Green Rovers.

Joey Barton’s side have three games in BS7 and three on the road in August, including visits to expected promotion challengers Barnsley and Portsmouth, as they look to hit the ground running in the third tier.

Although the season kicks off a week earlier than normal, there is no break for the World Cup in Qatar, as is the case with the Premier League and Championship. Rovers have a Boxing Day clash at Wycombe Wanderers and then host Exeter City and Cheltenham Town in back-to-back South West derbies around New Year’s Day.

Outside of Pompey, notable away days for Gasheads are at Ipswich Town (September 13, albeit a midweek fixture), Derby County (October 29), Sheffield Wednesday (October 25), and Plymouth Argyle (April 1).

Rovers welcome Darrell Clarke back to the Mem again as his Port Vale side visit on December 10, while the Gas’ promotion rivals of last season are also part of a potentially tricky run-in to the season.

Rovers will host Derby - albeit with the Rams financial future very much up in the air - and Sheffield Wednesday, followed by away trips at Port Vale and recently relegated Peterborough United, with Jonson Clarke-Harris in their ranks, closing the campaign out where it began, at the Mem with Bolton Wanderers on the last day.
