Fuel thefts across Falkirk rise as cost of petrol and diesel at pumps increase

Fuel thefts in Falkirk have risen over the past week or so with cops issuing a warning.

It's thought the increased cost of petrol and diesel at the pumps across Scotland could be to blame.

Police Scotland say they have had reported thefts from both domestic and commercial premisses.

Those who store fuel are being advised to make sure that they're using lockable gates, fitting a locking fuel cap or alarm and installing security lighting.

It's not know exactly how many incidents have been reported to cops though.

Petrol prices in the UK could reach as high as £2.40 a litre this year due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Dr Amrita Sen, Director of Research at Energy Aspects, told MPs on the Treasury Committee at Westminster that oil prices will fluctuate throughout the year.

Vladimir Putin 's war in neighbouring Ukraine has led to a rise in the oil price due to a number of factors, including supply fears.
