FSG made 'massive' Liverpool decision as double transfer request made

The month of April is going to be huge for Liverpool.

You sign for the club to be in this position. When I was a kid, I wanted to be in FA Cup finals and winning the league as they are the moments you cherish. The bigger the game, bring it on.

There is no let-up and everyone will have to be ready for it. If we come out of the month in the FA Cup final, in a strong position heading into the Champions League semi-final second leg and we’re still in the title race, everyone will be absolutely delighted.

But it will take some doing. The Premier League, out of all the cups, would be such a massive achievement after it being seemingly over at Christmas. If we were to turn it around, competing against this City squad and the manager they’ve got, it would be something miraculous.

This Liverpool side have created their own history but you get nothing for finishing second, as they say. The side I played for should have won two back-to-back doubles, but we didn’t. If this current side is able to come out of the season winning two or three cups, it would be a great achievement. Four will be asking a lot, but you’ve still got to try and do it.

At the start of the season, pundits were doubting whether Liverpool would even finish third and hardly anyone said they could win the title. For me, it was always going to be between Liverpool and City and possibly Chelsea in the frame. I got that one right.

What this team keeps on doing is proving people wrong, and Jurgen is a massive part of that. He is more important than any single player in the squad. People talk about Mo but while Klopp is there, he is the one.

I really dread the day he goes because I’ve seen what can happen next before with Alex Ferguson and other managers. Under the stringent regime we’ve got, what a job he has done to keep up with Manchester City.

Anfield effect cannot be underestimated

It was great to be back at Anfield on Saturday afternoon for the Liverpool Legends game. You wouldn’t get that at many, if any, grounds where ex-players come and play and you get a full house. Thirty or forty percent of the crowd were probably kids, too, which was a joy to see. It would be nice to set out a part of the redeveloped Anfield Road stand for children, enabling the younger generation to experience watching this fantastic side in the flesh.

Anfield is special. People who support other clubs will say that is a load of rubbish but, when you have been as many times as I’ve been, it is spiritual.

You see the games where we’ve come back over the years, it has a huge effect on the outcome of results. We need to keep that atmosphere and build on it by possibly redeveloping the Kenny Dalglish stand next or the Kop. It is absolutely massive we stayed at Anfield as opposed to moving stadiums, which was previously considered.

People do jump on the owners, but look where we are at the moment. Of course, we want big transfers, we want to keep our best players but they haven’t been bad when you consider what Anfield is now.

We have to give them a fair crack of the whip somewhere down the line, but I would like to see a couple of big signings this summer!
