The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has recalled a brand of lemon cheesecake sold in Irish supermarkets because it does not have all of its allergens listed.
The product contains walnuts, which some people are highly allergic to, but does not list them in the ingredients or warn of their presence in the allergens section.
An alert was issued earlier today for the Galberts Plant-Based Dessert’s Lemon Cheesecake. The recall includes the pack size ‘2 x 100g’ across all batches and all expiry dates.

The warning from the FSAI read: “Walnuts were detected in an ingredient of the cheesecake base but they were not an intentional ingredient and are therefore not mentioned on the label.
“This may make the affected batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of walnuts.”
According to health officials, the severity of walnut-induced allergic reactions range from slight oral allergy syndrome - involving itching in the mouth and/or tongue soon after chewing and ingesting a walnut - to severe and even potentially fatal systemic reactions - which include anaphylactic shock; hives and swelling of the throat, asthma.
The severity of the allergic reaction depends on which proteins are in the walnut the person has become allergic to.
Those suffering from a nut allergy are advised to avoid consuming this product if they happen to have it in their fridge.
