A councillor has called the impact of maintenance work on a popular shared cycle and pedestrian way in Cardiff "frustrating and disappointing". The shared path which emerges from underneath the railway bridge on to Taffs Mead Embankment in Grangetown has been narrowed due to maintenance work which is being carried out by the National Grid.
One of Cardiff council's ward members for Grangetown, Cllr Ash Lister, has spoken out on the matter and stressed the importance of the work being carried out with consideration for those who use the trail. The National Grid, which is carrying out underground cable installation works, has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
Cllr Ashley Lister said: "It’s frustrating and disappointing to see further works impacting access to this section of the Taff Trail for both Grangetown residents and those who use the trail for leisure or commuting. Whilst I completely appreciate the need for the works to be carried out in the area, it is important that this is done with proper care and consideration for those who use the trail.

"We have spoken with council officers and asked them to engage with the contractors to minimise disruption as much as possible, and hope that this is resolved as quickly as possible." The shared pedestrian and cycle way was subject to complaints in October last year when construction work being carried out on the Unite Students building on Pendyris Street resulted in the narrowing of the path.
At the time, Unite Students said The Bakery building was undergoing vital re-cladding work and apologised for any inconvenience caused as a result. The National Grid said that the majority of the cable work which they are carrying out was installed on Friday, May 5.
A National Grid spokesperson said: "The portion that you are showing in the photograph will be reinstated tomorrow with a small portion left open at the bottom of the photograph to allow us to install the service cable, also there will be a joint hole left open at the bottom side of the substation. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the work.”
