“We are still trying to withstand and continue coverage so the world can see the Israeli crimes in Gaza,” wrote Ain Media co-founder and Palestinian journalist Roshdi Sarraj on Instagram, referring to the increasing tally of dead journalists, internet blackouts and attacks on media offices. Five days later, he was killed in an airstrike in Gaza.
Sarraj is among 23 journalists – including 19 Palestinians, three Israelis and one Lebanese – who have been killed in the recent flare-up in the Israel-Palestine conflict since October 7, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Sherif Mansour, the CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa programme coordinator, earlier told AP that more journalists have been killed in Gaza during the past two weeks than since 2001.
