Arsenal’s Mikel Merino admitted he was on the brink of “crying himself to extinction” as he lifted the lid on the injury nightmare which left him relying on a mobility scooter.

Merino has been sidelined since he had an operation on a fractured foot sustained in Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United on January 25.
