
For over 20 years, Guan worked on fashionable Bond Street managing a high-end clothing retailer, but when the 2008 financial crisis hit, spending dried up, and following a change in ownership, he was made redundant.
Guan was hopeful he’d soon find another job. But two years — and more than 200 applications — later, he was still unemployed. “Mentally, I started to struggle,” he says. “I stopped going out socially. I felt isolated and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety.”
