From airports to Ram temple, Central Vista: Why Modi govt’s projects failed rain-test

As rains battered several cities, the canopy of airports collapsed in Jabalpur, Delhi and Rajkot, Ayodhya’s Ram temple priest complained of leakage from the roof and the roads leading to the temple caved in, while roads and buildings flooded in the national capital.

The municipal officials and governments are  washing their hands off the infrastructure collapse by citing extreme weather, but this is also a result of corruption, bad town planning, and lack of solid waste management and water drainage.

Newslaundry looks at the state-of-the-art projects built by the government at the cost of thousands of crores that couldn’t withstand a few hours of rain: the Delhi Airport Terminal built by the GMR Group at the cost of Rs 12,000 crore; the Ram Mandir Complex worth Rs 1,800 crore built with the expertise of Larsen and Toubro, Tata Consultancy Services and IIT; and the Central Vista Project worth over Rs 20,000 crore built by L&T, Tata Group, and Gujarat HCP Company.
