Frito-Lay's Doritos Added to Recall List

PepsiCo’s (PEP) -) potato chip and snack food subsidiary Frito-Lay is part of a new FDA recall.

Frito-Lay’s cheesy tortilla chip -- Doritos Nacho Cheese flavored -- may have been contaminated with an undeclared ingredient. The FDA says they "may contain undeclared soy and wheat ingredients from spicy sweet chili tortilla chips." Soy and wheat are considered some of the top food allergens and could pose adverse health effects for those with allergies if consumed.

The voluntary recall is for two different sizes of Doritos, the 14.5-ounce party size bag and the individual 1-ounce bag size. The recall is meant to notify consumers who have allergies to any ingredients containing soy and wheat. Consumers without those specific food allergies are able to safely consume the products without concern.

Here's how to identify if the chips in your pantry may be part of the recall. They'll have a Guaranteed Fresh Date of “September 26, 2023” for both bag sizes. The 1-ounce bag can be identified with a Universal Product Code UPC of “0 28400 09089 6” and Manufacturing Code/ Time Stamp of “465218034 X 22:47 - 22:54.”

The 14.5-ounce bag can be identified with a UPC of “0 28400 51779 9” and a Manufacturing Code/Time Stamp of either “465218037 X 22:47 - 22:59” or “465218137 X 23:00 - 23:06.”

Luckily for most of the country these products have been located in just one area. The retailers that may have these recalled products have been located primarily in Pennsylvania, but as for the 1-ounce vending machine chip size they could be outside of the state according to Forbes.
