Jason Voorhees x Dead by Daylight: 10th anniversary stream confirms Jason will enter the Fog

After ten years, Jason Voorhees is finally entering the Fog.

First revealed in a long livestream, which primary starred a desolate brown cabin in the middle of a pine wood, Friday the 13th has been confirmed as the next licensed collaboration with Dead by Daylight.

Since 2016, Jason has been tantalizingly out-of-reach due to rights issues and the creation of his own video game, which has since debuted and gone offline. The influence of Friday the 13th has always been clear on Dead by Daylight, especially the design of the first killer The Trapper with his masked face and blunt melee weapon, so the arrival of the OG is cause for celebration.

One of the most famous characters in horror history, and the series that launched endless imitations in the slasher genre, Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees is joining the game. The reveal was made via a livestream on a seemingly still image of a small cabin in some pine woods, with a passing bicyclist, barking dogs, campfires, lightning, and finally the man himself entering the cabin.

In the final minutes of the stream, Jason was revealed to be the POV character the entire time, as he lumbered into the cabin, grabbed his mask and machete, and looked at his own reflection in a dirty window.

Famous for his hockey mask and habit of murdering teenage camp counselors, Jason has long been caught in the video game equivalent of development hell. Friday the 13th: The Game, a title made immediately following the success of Dead by Daylight’s release in 2016, was made unplayable on Jan 1, 2025, after years of stalled updates and game modes.

Since Jason was busy in his own version of Dead by Daylight, he was never avaliable to be licensed for the game despite hordes of horror icons joining over the years, including Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street, Jigsaw from Saw, Springtrap from Five Nights at Freddy’s, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, and even Nicholas Cage. Since his own game’s demise, it seems the rights holders finally made a deal with Dead by Daylight, though the reveal tellingly said “Jason” rather than “Friday the 13th”.

Live events, merch, and more planned for 10th anniversary celebrations

Behaviour Interactive, the developers behind DBD, have promised a line-up of celebrations for the 10th anniversary. So far, the only things officially announced are a live event in Montreal, the addition of Jason to DBD, and a small collection of limited-edition merch like t-shirts, posters, and a vinyl soundtrack. This colleciton will only be available once, with sales beginning on June 12 and ending July 31.

The main anniversary event is the live in-person event in Montreal, Canada (the home of Behaviour Interactive). Tickets aren’t on sale yet, but the developers have promised “a one-day anniversary event featuring dev panels, reveals, meet-and-greets, gaming stations, an Art of Dead by Daylight mini-expo, the Year 10 Anniversary Broadcast and plenty more.”
