Scots mum shares daughter's first day at school pics in side-splitting before and after
A Scots mum has shared hilarious before and after photos of her daughter's first day of school - which saw the youngster completely floored by all the excitement of starting her journey in primary education.
Stacey McCullagh said she was "emotional but happy" to wave four-year-old Lyla off on her first day in primary one at St Mark's Primary School in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire on Wednesday.
But the 40-year-old was left in fits of giggles when she arrived home later that afternoon to find the girl conked out on the doorstep after what had apparently been a draining and tiresome first day.
Breast cancer linked to chemical found in shampoo and beauty products in new study
A new study has revealed links to breast cancer and low doses of a common chemical found in shampoos, soaps and other beauty products.
Previous studies have linked parabens with the disease, but new research suggests much smaller amounts could also be dangerous. The chemical preservative is also found in many lotions and body creams, including sun cream.
Different research centres across the US found that exposure to these chemicals can be harmful, particularly at puberty and during pregnancy.
Mum left 'feeling guilty' over kids' Scottish names after friend's 'hurtful' comment
A mum has been left feeling "guilty" after a friend told her that the Scottish names she chose for children are stereotypically "naughty names". Posting to Mumsnet, the anonymous woman said she was "hurt" by the fellow mum's comments, and is now worried that her two sons' names have "negative associations".
With another baby on the way, the parent has also been left fearful that she will make the same mistake, Hull Live reports. Taking to the online forum, she wrote: "A friend made a light hearted comment (supposedly) about my two children’s names last week and I am convinced she’s a MN member seeing as she used the term ‘naughty boy name’.
DVLA warning as 112 conditions must be declared or face £1,000 fine - full list
There are currently 112 conditions that you must declare to the DVLA or you could risk a hefty fine - or even be forced to surrender your licence.
Failure to declare these conditions could lead to a fine of up to £1,000 and even prosecution if your undeclared condition leads to an accident.
It comes after the DVLA recently made a major change to medical application process in a bid to speed up the process. Now medical professionals such as specialist nurses and opticians can carry out your medical questionnaire, on top of just doctors which was the case previously.
People claiming Universal Credit could also be due up to £156 each week on top of benefit
New statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that in June 2022 there were 5.6 million people across the UK receiving financial support through Universal Credit, a benefit intended to help those out of work or on a low income with daily living costs.
But those costs are rising and UK inflation has surged to another 40-year high as fuel and energy prices rocketed amid the ongoing cost of living crisis, according to new official figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). It said Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation rose to 10,1% in July, up from 9.4% in June - to put that into perspective, the UK Government benefit uprating in April was 3.1%.
