Games in the third and fourth tiers do get postponed, however, due to players being called up by their countries, with at least three call-ups for one side leading to it being eligible for applying for a game to be played at another time.
Dion Charles has already been called up for Northern Ireland ahead of their clashes against Luxembourg and Hungary.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson could also be called up for Iceland, as could Manchester City loanee James Trafford for England under-20s.
There are call-ups for Pompey too, with goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu and Ronan Curtis to represent the Republic of Ireland for matches against Belgium and Lithuania.
Ollie Webber will be away on Northern Ireland’s under-21, while Joe Morrell will be away with Wales and Pompey boss Danny Cowley had expressed doubts the game would go ahead on its original date.
And the game next weekend has now been called off, with a fresh date of Tuesday, April 5, being selected for the League One encounter, with an 8pm kick-off.
A Wanderers statement read: "Wanderers’ scheduled home League One game against Portsmouth on Saturday, 26 March has been postponed due to international call-ups on both sides.
"The match at the University of Bolton Stadium has been re-arranged for Tuesday, 5 April (KO 8pm).
"Tickets purchased for the original date will be valid for the re-arranged fixture."
Wanderers sit 11th and 11 points off the top six as things stand, while Pompey are three points ahead of Ian Evatt's side in 10th and with a game in hand.
Cowley's side won the clash at Fratton Park at the end of October 1-0 thanks to a goal from John Marquis early in the first half.
