Frenkie de Jong has reportedly told Manchester United that he will not be moving to Old Trafford this summer.
United’s pursuit of the midfielder has been one of the worst kept secrets in football, with the club and new manager Erik ten Hag identifying the Dutchman as their number one target.
However, Sport claim United could have been dealt a significant blow in their pursuit of the 25-year-old. The Manchester Evening News understands United have agreed a deal in principle for the midfielder.

Elsewhere, United are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign ex-Lazio shot-stopper Thomas Strakosha.
The Manchester Evening News previously revealed that Watford's Daniel Bachmann was United's main target as they look to sign a backup for David de Gea, but 90min reports that Ten Hag is working on a deal for Strakosha, who is out of contract after leaving Lazio.
