Frenkie de Jong race 'takes a turn' as Manchester United hero labels Man City 'a machine'

Welcome to the latest edition of the City Is Ours daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the Manchester City stories you might have missed.

City could be in the market for a midfield in the summer and one of their reported targets is being courted by plenty of Europe's elite clubs.

Admitting that your rivals are brilliant is never easy for a football fan but former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has done just that.

And finally, your stomach probably sinks when you read the words 'Jack Grealish' and 'night out', but fear not. We've got some more wholesome content regarding his off-field exploits today...

De Jong race hots up

Barcelona's financial plight means they're likely to have to cut ties with some of their star players this summer in a bid to balance the books.

Frenkie de Jong is one of their most valuable assets and so it's not out of the question that he could be sold at the end of the season.

City have long been credited with an interest in the Dutchman, but they'll face a lot of competition for his signature.

Calciomercato report that Juventus are the latest to add their name to De Jong's long list of admirers, joining Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and City.

Our view: There's no question that City will need to freshen up their midfield options next season and De Jong would be mad to snub the chance to work with Pep Guardiola.

Pep's Total Football philosophy would suit the Barcelona man perfectly and you only have to look at the midfielders currently on City's books to see how Guardiola's coaching can improve a player.

Neville lauds City through gritted teeth

When Neville decided to forge a career in punditry he probably didn't envisage having to talk about how brilliant City are every weekend.

Speaking on Sky Sports' The Gary Neville Podcast, the former England international described Guardiola's side as "a machine", though he doesn't believe they've wrapped up their fourth title in five years just yet.

“City, they are a machine, you don’t expect them to make a lot of mistakes, but they could. They could. And Liverpool and Chelsea have got to believe that," Neville said of City's nine-point gap at the top of the table.

Our view: Well done, Gary. That can't have been easy for you to admit.

Still, he couldn't just compliment City without adding the massive caveat that they might yet make a meal of their title defence. Whatever helps you sleep at night, I suppose.

Jack catches up with his pal

Grealish should probably have shares in Geordie Shore given how well his nights on the town are documented.

Luckily for us and him, the latest snap to emerge on social media was uploaded to his own Instagram account as he took the chance to catch up with an old mate.

The City star was pictured with former Aston Villa teammate John McGinn, writing the caption: "Back with my brother."

Our view: Given the reports linking United with a move for McGinn, maybe Grealish arranged to meet with his mate to tell him what a shambles of a club they are and not to bother.
