Frenkie de Jong future 'won't impact' Barcelona's Bernardo Silva move and more Man City rumours

Barcelona will reportedly persist in their attempts to sign Bernardo Silva this summer, even if Frenkie de Jong stays at Camp Nou.

Reports have suggested the Catalan club have failed in their bid to register the raft of new signings made this summer. Despite their precarious financial footing, Barca have signed Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde, while renewing the contracts of Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto.

None of their new players can currently be registered, and with the new La Liga season approaching, time is running out for Barcelona to balance the books. Despite that, speculation continues over whether they will make a move for Silva this summer.

The Manchester City star has been linked with a move to Camp Nou for some time, although it had been suggested Barca would have to offload De Jong first before attempting to sign Silva. Spanish outlet SPORT, though, claim they will still attempt to take the 27-year-old, even if De Jong stays put.

Elsewhere, West Ham have been tipped to challenge City in the race to sign Benfica left-back Alejandro Grimaldo.

With Marc Cucurella making the move to Chelsea, the Blues will have to explore other options as they look to strengthen in defence. Having allowed Oleksandr Zinchenko to move to Arsenal, Joao Cancelo is currently the only senior option in the position, although Nathan Ake has also filled in on occasion.

Grimaldo is one of the alternatives that has been touted, with reports suggesting City have been offered the chance to sign the 26-year-old. GiveMeSport claim West Ham are also considering a move for the Spaniard should they fail in their attempts to sign Filip Kostic this summer.
