Frenkie de Jong comments on Donny van de Beek's Man United transfer could help Erik ten Hag

Frenkie de Jong's comments on Donny van de Beek's transfer to Manchester United have already shown that he would be open to a reunion with Erik ten Hag.

Van de Beek and De Jong conjured up a lethal partnership at Ajax under Ten Hag. However in 2019 De Jong was lured away to join Barcelona while a year later Van de Beek moved to Old Trafford.

It was the end of the midfield pairing in the Netherlands but reports have suggested that De Jong could be on his way to the Reds this summer. Earlier this month, the Manchester Evening News revealed United contacted Barcelona about the availability of the 25-year-old with Ten Hag seeing him as the 'ideal' signing to sure up the centre of the pitch.

While Barca have said that the Dutchman is not currently for sale, his previous comments point to there being a fair chance he would welcome a move to Manchester. Speaking in 2020 about Van de Beek's move to the Theatre of Dreams, De Jong said: "I spoke to Donny about his transfer.

"This is a beautiful transfer and we are all very happy for him. Did he ask me for advice? No, no, he can think by himself."

Having described the move as 'beautiful' it would seem as though the midfielder wouldn't be against joining United. With Ten Hag also at Old Trafford, the prospect appears more likely.
