Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has long been linked with a move to the Premier League following a turbulent few years at Barcelona. The Spanish club and de Jong have faced several difficulties regarding financial disagreements with the club requesting the Dutchman to take a pay cut on multiple occasions to help with their money issues.
Chelsea and Manchester United have both shown a strong interest to sign the midfielder with the latter on the verge of signing him last summer in line with the appointment of his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
Despite some concern around his minutes with the arrival of Franck Kessie and emergence of Gavi and Pedri, de Jong has made 34 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona this season.

The 25-year-old has started the last nine La Liga games with Barcelona winning eight which included Sunday evening's victory over fierce rivals Real Madrid in the El Clasico. A dominant midfield display saw de Jong score an 8.7 match rating on FotMob which made him the player of the match.
Following the game, his transfer future was one of the topics discussed with a reporter from Ziggo Sport asking, “you won’t join Manchester United in the summer, correct?” De Jong replied: “No, I don't think so. You never know of course. But I'm very happy in Barcelona."
He added: "From the summer until now it has improved for me here. I play almost every game, it makes me feel so satisfied."
Financial issues for Barcelona does not entirely rule out sales, with only a small handful of players likely considered untouchable. Earlier this month club president Joan Laporta admitted the sale of an attacking player was possible, but that claim could stretch into midfield.
“We can’t rule out the sale of an attacking player in the summer," he said. "When Memphis Depay left us, we could have signed a forward, but the economic reality is very difficult and we can't rule out the sale of an attacker."
