French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu on Monday warned that he was prepared to declare a state of emergency as authorities struggled to contain ongoing violence after looting affected thousands of businesses over the weekend. The unrest linked to a student protest movement comes months before France’s presidential election, raising concerns over public security and political stability.

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said on Monday that a state of emergency could be imposed "if needed", while adding that curfews were a better solution to the crisis over violent protests.
