French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has asked regional authorities to impose partial curfews in some cities as the government seeks to restore order, after a weekend of protests over the cost of living and the state of education led to rioting and looting that left thousands of businesses damaged.

The Paris police prefecture said a partial curfew would be in effect from 11pm on Monday until 6am on Tuesday in several neighbourhoods of the French capital.
