Djokovic: 'Credit to Aleks...he will go far' - after defeating Kovacevic in French Open

Thiago Seyboth Wild produced the upset of the French Open so far as the world No 172 stunned second seed Daniil Medvedev in five sets. The Brazilian, 23, arrived at Roland Garros having never won a main draw match at a grand slam but prevailed against the world No 2 7-6, 6-7, 2-6 6-3 6-4. Seyboth Wild produced an astonishingly aggressive game to secure the shock result, which was also the first time he had ever played a fifth set.

Elsewhere, world No 1 Iga Swiatek gets her French Open defence underway following wins for Elena Rybakina, Ons Jabeur and Coco Gauff. After Medvedev’s shock defeat, Holger Rune, Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev were able to progress in the men’s draw.

Monday at Roland Garros saw Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie start their bids with first-round victories, while in the women’s singles it was home favourite and No 5 seed Caroline Garcia who made a winning start.
