Britain has had at least one women’s player in the singles draw of every Grand Slam for the last 14 years but will have no representatives in this year’s French Open.
Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart and Fran Jones had all been vying for their places in the main draw at Roland Garros through qualifying.
But the trio were all knocked out on Wednesday. Boulter narrowly lost 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 to American Ashlyn Krueger and there was a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 loss for Dart to Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot.
Jones, meanwhile, left the court in tears when 4-1 down to Coco Vandeweghe because of a shoulder injury that curtailed her progress.
A trio of other Britons – Heather Watson, Katie Swan and Lily Miyazaki – had all previously been knocked out earlier in the qualifying rounds.
Emma Raducanu has been ruled out of the summer, including Wimbledon, following a trio of operations on both her wrists and her ankle.
Britain will be represented in the men’s singles draw at Roland Garros by Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans and Jack Draper but Liam Broady missed out in qualifying on Wednesday while Andy Murray has opted to forego the French Open to focus on his grasscourt season.
