French fishermen renewed protests over rising fuel costs on Thursday despite the government increasing subsidies for the sector and extending support for farmers and construction companies. Diesel prices are nearing a record high, fuelling wider concern over the cost of living and calls for protests reminiscent of the Yellow Vest movement, seven months before the presidential election.
Fishermen returned to the Frontignan oil depot near Sète early on Thursday, while another protest was held at the port of Nice, ahead of a meeting with the fisheries minister in Paris.
