Insta360 has a habit of adding genuinely useful features to action cameras people already own, and its latest update might be one of the most substantial yet.
The company has launched an AI Voice Assistant for the Insta360 GO Ultra, transforming the palm-sized wearable camera into something closer to a pair of AI smart glasses without requiring you to wear anything on your face.
Built using Google Gemini, the new assistant can translate conversations in real time, answer spoken questions and analyse whatever the camera is pointing towards.
You can activate it by holding down the shutter button or saying “Hey, Kira” while the camera is switched on.

Real-Time Translation is perhaps the most practical addition, allowing you to speak normally while the GO Ultra interprets the conversation.
The camera’s magnetic mounting system means it can remain attached to your clothing for hands-free use or be quickly removed and passed to someone else.
Ask with Photo works more like the visual search tools found on modern AI devices.
Point the GO Ultra towards a sign, building, landmark or museum exhibit and ask what you are looking at.
The assistant can identify objects, interpret unfamiliar text and provide additional cultural or historical context.
Ask by Voice handles broader questions, including queries about local food, prices, weather, souvenirs and places to visit.
Voiceprint Recognition is designed to identify the owner’s voice in busy environments, helping the assistant distinguish commands from surrounding conversations, traffic and background noise.
That gives the GO Ultra many of the headline features associated with AI-powered smart glasses, but in a more flexible camera that can be worn, handheld or repositioned depending on what you are doing.
Less time staring at your phone
The obvious appeal is that travellers can get information without repeatedly reaching for their phones.
Conversations, questions and discoveries can also become part of the footage being recorded, potentially creating a more complete account of a trip than a collection of disconnected clips.
Insta360’s separate Moments Pro feature can then identify highlights, organise footage and create an edit with music matched to the movement on screen.
The AI Voice Assistant began rolling out through the Insta360 app on 7 August 2026.
Insta360 says availability may vary depending on region and language.
