US President Donald Trump on Tuesday ordered the United States Navy to begin escorting oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary and directed a federal agency to provide political risk insurance for maritime trade in the Gulf, pledging to safeguard global energy supplies as the Middle East crisis deepens.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the measures would take effect immediately and apply to all shipping lines operating in the region.
